Vanuatu enjoys a warm tropical climate all year round, so there's really no bad time to visit. That said, understanding the island's two main seasons will help you plan the trip that suits you best.

Vanuatu's two seasons
Efate, like most of Vanuatu, has two broad seasons rather than four:
- Dry season (roughly May to October) — cooler, less humid, with lower rainfall and plenty of sunshine. This is the most popular time to visit, with comfortable temperatures ideal for beach days, snorkelling and exploring.
- Wet season (roughly November to April) — warmer and more humid, with higher rainfall that often comes in short, heavy bursts followed by sunshine. The landscape is at its lushest and green, and the sea is at its warmest.
(Weather patterns vary year to year — always check a current forecast close to your travel dates.)
Which season is right for you?
- For classic beach weather and outdoor adventure, the dry season (May–October) is hard to beat.
- For warm seas, fewer crowds and lush scenery, the wet season has real charm — just pack a light rain jacket and plan a flexible itinerary.
A note on the cyclone season

The wet season overlaps with the South Pacific cyclone season. Serious storms are relatively infrequent, but it's wise to travel with appropriate insurance and keep an eye on forecasts if visiting between November and April.
What to pack, whatever the season
- Light, breathable clothing and swimwear
- Reef-safe sunscreen and a hat
- A light rain jacket (especially in the wet season)
- Water shoes for reef walks
- Insect repellent for the evenings
